Belarus to field ten athletes at Karate1-Premier League in Spain

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Ten Belarusian athletes will compete at the Karate1-Premier League which is due in Madrid, Spain on 29 November – 1 December, BelTA learned from head coach of the national karate team Anatoly Kuryanovich.

Competing for Belarus will be Mariya Fursova, Mariya Kulinkovich, Irina Sharykhina, Mariya Alekseyeva, David Nguyen, Ivan Korobov, Gleb Sachkovsky, Anton Isakov, Aleksei Vodchits, and Andrei Grinevich.

According to Anatoly Kuryanovich, this is the final stage of the Premier League. “These competitions are a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Belarusian athletes will also take part in the tournaments in Paris and the UAE,” the head coach said. “We hope to advance in the world and Olympic rankings. For each victory and medal place, each athlete receives points. Competitions in Spain are a high competition. We will try to show our best.”

The Karate1-Premier league is a series of prestigious tournaments. Each category features no more than 64 athletes selected according to the World Karate Federation rankings.
