Belarus' pentathletes collect bronze medals at 2016 UIPM World Championships

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Yekaterina Orel and Irina Prosentsova of Belarus clinched bronze medals of the 2016 UIPM World Championships that kicked off in Moscow's Olympic Stadium, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation.

Following not-perfect performance in swimming and show jumping, the Belarusians improved their positions in fencing and a combined event of pistol shooting and a cross-country run. As a result, Yekaterina Orel and Irina Prosentsova scored a total of 1405 points to take bronze.

Lena Schoeneborn and Annika Schleu of Germany win the women's race with the total of 1419 points. Second were British Joanna Muir and Samantha Murray (1409 points). Seven teams took part in the competitions.

Belarus will be represented at the men's event by Kirill Kasyanik and Pavel Tikhonov. The Belarusians will compete with 16 teams.

The UIPM World Championships will be a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for some. For others it will be the last chance to book a place. Automatic qualification is up for grabs for the top three finishers in the men's and women's individual events, and all competitors can continue to gain ranking points in their bid to qualify.
