Belarus off to good start in Women's U19 Volleyball European Championship qualifying

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian women's volleyball team beat Romania 3:2 (17:25, 25:20, 19:25, 25:15, 15:10) in a qualifier for the 2018 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship, BelTA informs.

The Group F qualification tournament is taking place in Romania's Ploiesti. The host team won the first set but Belarus made a comeback with some brilliant efforts in offence. The wing-spikers Vera Kostyuchik and Anna Grishkevich found a groove and gave a dazzling performance, especially in the fourth and fifth set. Anna Grishkevich (Minchanka) was the highest-scoring player of the day with 25 points.

Team Belarus coached by Natalya Melyanyuk is set to face France and Belgium in Group F. The winner of the group advances to the final part of the European Championship due in Albania from 1 to 9 September. The second-placed team will make it to the third qualifier.

The Belarusian men's volleyball team coached by Oleg Mikanovich is set to face Poland in the first qualifying round for the European U20 Championship in Ukraine's Cherkassy. The leader of the Belarusian side is attacker Vladislav Davyskiba.

Belarus will play Croatia (28 April) and Ukraine (29 April) in Group H. The first-placed team will advance to the final stage of the continental showdown to be hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium from 14 to 22 July.
