Belarus off to good start at tennis tournaments in Slovenia, United States

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Portoroz, Slovenia is hosting a €43,000 tennis tournament, BelTA has learned.

First-seeded Belarus' Andrei Vasilevsky and Hans Podlipnik Castillo of Chile proved stronger against Jozef Kovalik of Slovenia and Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-6 (5), 6-2. The Belarusian-Chilean duo will next face wild cards Jamie Delgado of Spain and Tom Kocevar-Desman of Slovenia. Belarus' Ilya Ivashko paired with Aldin Setkic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was also off to a good start, beating Albano Olivetti of France and Igor Zelenay of Slovenia 6-1, 5-7, 10-8. In the men's singles, Ilya Ivashko will take on Spain's Jamie Delgado in the second round. World number 124 Egor Gerasimov lost to Italy's Luca Vanni 5-7, 3-6 in the opener.

Vera Lapko saw off Sabina Sharipova of Uzbekistan 6-2, 6-4 in the opener in Landisville, the United States. The Belarusian will next face either Alexa Glatch of the United States or Kseniya Lykina of Russia.
