Belarus' NOC Athletes Commission elected

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – New members were elected to the Athletes Commission of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus at Belarus' first National Athletes Forum on 23 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the organization.

The commission included Olympic champion in canoe sprint Aliaksandr Bahdanovich, medalist of the world and European championships in rhythmic gymnastics Katsiaryna Halkina, Belarusian ice hockey player, assistant coach at HC Dinamo Minsk Mikhail Grabovski, senior coach of the national rowing team, first two-time Olympic champion in the history of Belarus Ekaterina Karsten, Olympic champion in tennis Max Mirnyi and Olympic champion in aerials Alla Tsuper.

Six out of 20 candidates were elected at the forum. Four more will be named after the NOC Executive Board meeting. The new commission will vote for its chairperson. Only athletes who participated in the event cast their votes for the candidates.

The Athletes' Commission of the NOC of Belarus is a public, collegiate, recommendatory body under the NOC; it is set up to act in accordance with the charter of the organization. The main tasks are to make proposals on priority areas of the Belarus' NOC activity in comprehensive support of Belarusian athletes, including their social security and measures for their implementation. The commission assists in providing support for Belarusian athletes who have finished their sporting career, engages athletes in various organizations and promotes their employment.

The Belarus NOC' Athletes Commission cooperates with the Athletes Commissions of the International Olympic Committee, the European Olympic Committees as well as the national sport federations (unions, associations); fights against doping as well as manifestations of any forms of discrimination and violence in sport.
