Belarus names squad for 2016 IIHF World Championship

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – The coaching staff of the Belarusian national ice hockey team announced the players who will take part in the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Saint Petersburg and Moscow on 6-22 May, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.

The following players have been so far confirmed:

goalkeepers – Vitaly Koval (VIK Vasteras HK, Sweden), Dmitry Milchakov, Kevin Lalande (both Dinamo Minsk);

defensemen – Nikita Ustinenko, Ilya Shinkevich, Yevgeny Lisovets (all – Dinamo Minsk), Dmitry Korobov (Spartak Moscow), Chirstian Helkel, Roman Dyukov (both – Yunost Minsk), Oleg Yevenko (Lake Erie), Kirill Gotovets (Rockford);

forwards – Sergei Drozd, Nikita Komarov, Alexei Kalyuzhny, Charles Linglet, Andrei Stepanov, Alexander Pavlovich, Artur Gavrus (all – Dinamo Minsk), Andrei Stas, Alexander Kitarov (both - Neftekhimik), Sergei Kostitsyn (Torpedo), Andrei Kostitsyn (Sochi), Geoff Platt (CSKA), Yevgeny Kovyrshin (Severstal), Artyom Demkov (Shakhtyor).

On 4 May the Belarusian national ice hockey team will hold its final training session at Minsk Arena before leaving for Saint Petersburg. Before heading to the airport, the players will lay flowers at the Victory Square.

The 2016 IIHF World Championship will take place in St. Petersburg and Moscow on 6-22 May. Dave Lewis' men will play in Group B against Finland on 6 May, the United States on 7 May, Canada on 9 May, Slovakia on 11 May, Germany on 13 May and Hungary on 14 May.
