MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – The 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup draw ceremony took place at Minsk Town Hall on 6 March, BelTA informs.
Headed by Viktoria Datsuk and Valentina Navoichik, Team Belarus will face France, Japan, and Colombia in Group A.
Group B: USA, Italy, China, Mali
Group C: Hungary, Spain, Argentina, New Zealand
Group D: Australia, Latvia, Canada, Angola
The sixteen best runners-up from the group stage qualified for the play-offs will be split into eight pairs.
The decision to hold the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Belarus was made at the FIBA Congress in May 2017. The tournament is scheduled to run at the Minsk Palace of Sports and Falcon Club from 21 to 29 July 2018.
This year's edition will be the fifth staging of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup. Team USA won the first three tournaments in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Australia will go in as the defending world champion (62-38 over Italy in the 2016 final). Back in 2016, USA took out the bronze medal game (62-50 over China).
