Belarus, Latvia to co-host 2021 IIHF World Championship

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Latvia will co-host the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in 2021, BelTA learned about the results of the voting during the IIHF Congress in Cologne on 19 May 2017.

The secret vote took place in Hyatt Regency Cologne Hotel. The joint bid of Minsk and Riga got 55 votes, while Finland's bid received 52.

Belarus and Latvia placed a joint bid to host the 2021 IIHF World Championship in January 2017.

Latvia hosted the IIHF World Championship in 2006. Belarus hosted the championship in 2014. The final match took place at Minsk Arena, with Russia beating Finland 5-2. It is planned that the 2021 IIHF World Championship final and semifinals will be held in Minsk.
