MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian women's table tennis team have advanced to the elite division of the 2017 ITTF European Table Tennis Championships, BelTA has learned.
In the deciding playoff match the Belarusians secured a confident win over Wales, 3-0, in Minsk. Viktoriya Pavlovich, Darya Trigolos and Alina Orlovskaya all made their contribution to the victory. Tatyana Petkevich's team will compete for the medals against Luxemburg in September.
In the men's events Belarus is also close to reach the 2017 ITTF European Table Tennis Championships elite. Belarus celebrated a 3-1 victory against Hungary in the first playoff match. Vladimir Samsonov claimed two victories, with Alexander Khanin collecting one more. Pavel Platonov lost his encounter. The second leg is due to take place in Minsk on 18 April.
The Belarusian men's and women's national teams finished the first qualifier second in their respective groups.
