Belarus ice hockey championship to be split into divisions

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian ice hockey championship will be separated into Division A and Division B, Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Semyon Shapiro said at a press conference in Minsk on 14 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, next season the number of matches will increase to 56 for the national leading clubs. The issue with the number of foreign players in Belarusian clubs remains to be pressing. At present there are 35 of them, including 25 Russian players. Every team will be able to use up to five foreign players in a match. Every team can also field seven players older 28 years old.

According to Semyon Shapiro, experienced players will help their younger teammates develop professionally. In his words, there are a lot of young talented players in the Belarusian ice hockey. Among them are Ivan Kulbakov, Pavel Vorobei, Artur Gavrus, Andrei Belevich.

Semyon Shapiro stressed that all the decisions had been taken together with coaches and heads of all the Belarusian clubs.
