Belarus clinch medals on day one at test track cycling tournament in Minsk

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes clinched six medals at the start of the test track cycling tournament which is held at the Minsk Arena velodrome on 16-19 May in the run-up to the 2nd European Games, BelTA has learned.

Ina Savenka won the women's 3km individual pursuit. Tatsiana Sharakova finished third in the event.

Representatives of the Minsk cycling club Yauhen Veramchuk, Uladzislau Novik, Artsiom Zaitsau came in second in the men's team sprint. The event was won by Daniil Komkov from the Russian national team and Aleksandr Dubchenko and Aleksei Nosov from Marathon Tula.

Diana Medvedskaya and Yulia Manets collected bronze in the women's team sprint. Russia occupied two first places on the podium. Belarusian cyclists won gold and silver medals in the junior team sprint.

Seven medal events in women's and men's team pursuit, individual sprint, scratch race and points race are scheduled for the second day of the competitions. Juniors will compete in sprint.

Taking part in the tournament are 250 athletes from 16 countries. Entry is free.

The track cycling tournament at the 2nd European Games will be held on 27-30 June. A total of 316 athletes will compete in 20 medal events.
