MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian biathlon team had a high-quality training ahead of the Olympic season, the coaching staff said during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Zharko at the Raubichi sports center, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry.
The deputy prime minister inquired about the details of the preparations of one of Belarus' leading teams in winter sports for the important 2017/2018 season. According to Yuri Albers, senior coach for biathlon development, there were no problems with off-season preparations. “Every issue was solved promptly, all the targets were met. The only task now is to show our skills, perseverance, patience, and hunger for success,” he said.
Nadezhda Skardino, one of the leaders of the women's team, reassured that everyone on the team is ready for the challenege and feels very optimistic about the upcoming races.
Taking part in the meeting were Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko, his deputy Alexander Baraulya who is also chief of the Belarusian mission to the Winter Games, and top officials of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation.
The first races of the season for Belarusian biathletes will take place in Sjusjoen. The team is expected to go there on 4 November to take part in stage 1 of the IBU Cup on 23 November.
The team leader Darya Domracheva will join the team during the final stage of preparations for the season in Norway.
The 2017/2018 Biathlon World Cup is due to start in Sweden's Ostersund on 26 November.
The main biathlon competition will be the 2018 Winter Olympics to be hosted by South Korea's Pyeongchang.
