MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian national football team placed 71st in the July rankings of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), BelTA has learned.
Belarus has lost six points from the previous rankings to current No. 77 position with 454 points. FIFA Top 10 for July includes six European countries and four South American ones:
1. Germany – 1,606 points
2. Brazil – 1,590
3. Portugal – 1,386
4. Argentina – 1,325
5. Belgium – 1,265
6. Poland – 1,250
7. Switzerland – 1,210
8. France – 1.208
9. Chile – 1,195
10. Colombia – 1,191.
Ukraine is ranked highest among the post-Soviet states (24th). Russia is 64th.
The Belarusians under the tutelage of Igor Kriushenko have already played two 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers: 0-1 against Luxembourg on 31 August and 0-4 against Sweden on 3 September.
Belarus is currently sixth with five points in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group A. France is in top spot with 17 points after five games.
