Belarus 72nd in FIFA rankings

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian national football team maintained the same 72nd position in the March rankings of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), BelTA has learned.

The team keeps 472 points. Under the tutelage of Alexander Khatskevich, Belarus lost its 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria (89th in the FIFA rankings) 0-1 on 13 November. The Belarusian Football Association decided to rescind the contract with Alexander Khatskevich in early December 2016 due to the team's poor performance at the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying round. Igor Kriushenko was appointed acting head coach of the Belarusian national football team on 1 March. His debut at the head of the team is scheduled for 25 March in Stockholm when Belarus is set to hold its next 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sweden.

Belarus' rivals in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier keep the following world positions: France – 6th, the Netherlands – 21st, Bulgaria – 71st, and Luxemburg - 135th.

The FIFA top ten in March:

1. Argentina – 1.644 points

2. Brazil – 1.534

3. Germany – 1.443

4. Chile – 1.389

5. Belgium – 1.379

6. France – 1.318

7. Colombia – 1.312

8. Portugal – 1.240

9. Uruguay – 1.200

10. Spain – 1.162.

According to the FIFA rankings, Ukraine goes 31st, Russia – 60th, Uzbekistan is 63rd, Armenia – 85th, Azerbaijan – 89th, Kazakhstan – 94th, Lithuania – 107th, Latvia – 111th, Estonia – 119th, Kyrgyzstan – 125th, Georgia – 126th, Tajikistan – 133rd, Turkmenistan – 144th, and Moldova – 162nd.

The next FIFA rankings will be published on 6 April.
