MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – The International Ice Hockey Federation updated its World Ranking following the 2017 IIHF World Championship in Paris and Cologne, which ended with a victory for Sweden, BelTA has learned.
Despite losing the final to Sweden (1-2So), Canada remains first in the 2017 IIHF World Ranking and is followed by Russia (bronze medalists in 2017) in second place. New world champion Sweden moved up from fifth to third place after the gold-medal win in Cologne.
Belarus that finished 13 at this year's tournament (two wins and five defeats) placed 10th, falling down one point.
The IIHF World Ranking top ten is as follows: 1. Canada – 3,225 points; 2. Russia – 3,105; 3. Sweden – 3,080; 4. Finland – 3,060; 5. the United States – 2,980; 6. the Czech Republic – 2,900 7. Switzerland – 2,705; 8. Germany – 2,660; 9. Norway – 2,535; 10. Belarus – 2,535.
Best players of the 2017 tournament were named following the world's sport forum.
William Nylander of Sweden was named tournament MVP of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The Swedish forward had seven goals and seven assists from 10 games. Andrei Vasilevsky of Russia was named Best Goaltender with the 93.56 save percentage. Dennis Seidenberg of Germany was named Best Defenseman, while Artemiy Panarin of Russia - Best Forward.
