BATE secure first win in UEFA Champions League group stage

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian champions grabbed their first win in the UEFA Champions League group stage defeating Roma 3-2 on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

Following the 1-4 defeat to Leverkusen at the start of the fifth UEFA Champions League group stage on 16 September, BATE players had big intentions to make their fans that packed Borisov Arena happy. And they managed to do that. The Belarusian team was 3-0 up in 30 minutes, with Igor Stasevich's opener being followed by two from Filip Mladenovic.

Gervinho gave Roma hope and with eight minutes left Vasilis Torosidis set up a nervous finish.

Elsewhere, two late goals secured a 2-1 comeback for Barcelona against Leverkusen.

The Group E standings are as follows: Barcelona – 4 points, Leverkusen – 3, BATE – 3, and Roma – 1.

BATE will next host Barcelona, and Leverkusen will take on Roma on 20 October.
