MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to back injury, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian, ranked 5th in the world, was to face the 130th-ranked American Louisa Chirico in the third round on 4 May.
Earlier, Victoria Azarenka beat Laura Robson of the UK (World No.426) 6-4, 6-2 and saw off World No.49 Alize Cornet of France 6-3, 6-2.
In the men's doubles event Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Treat Huey of the Philippines will take on Daniel Nestor of Canada and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic.
The women's clay-court tournament in the Spanish capital will complete on 7 May. The men's event will finish on 8 May.
