Azarenka withdraws from Aegon Open Nottingham due to knee injury

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka was forced to withdraw from the Aegon Open Nottingham 2016 due to a knee injury, BelTA learnt from the athlete's VK page.

"I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from Nottingham. I came to Britain a few days ago to prepare and start training, but my knee is unfortunately not yet completely healed and ready to play at 100 percent. I had been very much looking forward to playing here in front of the fans in Nottingham at this great event. I have been made to feel so welcome by everyone here, and the facilities, including the grass courts, have been excellent, but hope to have a chance to come back next year instead,” Victoria Azarenka said.

Earlier, the Belarusian athlete, currently ranked 6th in the world, had to withdraw from the French Open round one against Italy's Karin Knapp due to a sharp pain in the knee.
