Azarenka to miss Fed Cup final in Minsk

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – Victoria Azarenka will not be able to come to Minsk for Belarus' Federations Cup final against the United States due to her ongoing child custody battle, BelTA has learned.

“It is heartbreaking for me to not have a chance to help Belarus in the final. Unfortunately, my current custody situation is keeping me in California. My heart is always with my country and my team and I will cheer them from afar,” the Belarusian said in a statement on her official Twitter account.

Victoria Azarenka noted that it has been a tough year for her. Nevertheless, she is already looking for 2018 to play before her fans. “I will be back stronger and better than ever,” Victoria Azarenka said.

The Fed Cup final between Belarus and the United States will take place at Chizhovka Arena on 11-12 November. The Belarusian national team under captain Eduard Dubrov will comprise Arina Sobolenko, Aleksandra Sasnovich, Vera Lapko and Lidia Morozova.
