Azarenka to face Risa Ozaki as she returns to sport

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Victoria Azarenka of Belarus is making her return to competition this week. The Belarusian will open the Mallorca Open against World No.74 Risa Ozaki of Japan, BelTA has learned.

After giving birth to her son in December 2016, Victoria Azarenka was initially targeting a return at the Brisbane International in early 2018. Later, she stated she would play at the Bank of the West Classic in California, which begins on 31 July. Not long ago, the player decided she is ready to be back in Mallorca in the mid June. She is currently training with her coach Michael Joyce.

Victoria Azarenka last played at the Roland Garros in May 2016. She had to withdraw due to injury in the first round against Italy's Karin Knapp. After the Mallorca Open, the Belarusian plans to travel to England to prepare for the Wimbledon which starts on 3 July.

Victoria Azarenka started her professional career in 2003. Since then she has won 20 WTA tournaments, including Australian Open (2012, 2013). In 2012 Victoria Azarenka won the Olympic mixed doubles event with Max Mirnyi and claimed the women's singles bronze of the London Games. Victoria Azarenka topped the WTA rankings on 30 January 2012 and held her reigning position for 51 weeks. Victoria Azarenka, who turns 28 on 31 July, has so far won about $28 million of prize money.
