MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 108 Victoria Azarenka has advanced to the San Jose 2018 quarterfinal, BelTA informs.
In the second round the Belarusian was to face Spain's world number 7 Garbine Muguruza. However, the Spanish player withdrew and was replaced by Russian world number 101 Anna Blinkova. Victoria Azarenka cruised past the Russian 19-year-old dispatching her 6-1, 6-0 in 59 minutes. The Belarusian will next face U.S. world number 42 Danielle Rose Collins who defeated Belarus' world number 69 Vera Lapko 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. In the opener Victoria Azarenka beat Ukraine's world number 56 Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 7-5, while Vera Lapko saw off China's world number 32 Zhang Shuai 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
In the doubles event Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and Sofia Kenin of the United States dismissed the U.S.-Paraguay tandem of Irina Falconi and Veronica Cepede Royg 6-4, 6-1.
