Azarenka 17th in WTA rankings

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) - Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka keeps her 17th spot in the WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian has not played since May 2016. In December 2016 she gave birth to her son. Victoria Azarenka plans to be back in action at the US Open this summer. Two other Belarusian tennis players have improved their positions in the rankings: Aleksandra Sasnovich moved up to the 114th, while Vera Lapko placed 293rd. Vera Lapko is currently taking part in the tournament in China's Zhuhai, reaching the third qualifying round after seeing off Japan's Riko Sawayanagi 6-1, 6-0.

The top ten players, according to the current WTA rankings, are as follows:

1. Serena Williams (USA) - 7,780 points

2. Angelique Kerber (Germany) – 7,405

3. Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) – 5,640

4. Simona Halep (Romania) – 5,172

5. Dominika Cibulkova (Slovakia) – 5,075

6. Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) – 4,670

7. Gabrine Muguruza (Spain) – 4,585

8. Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia) – 3,915

9. Madison Keys (United States) – 3,897

10. Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) – 3,795.

In the ATP rankings Belarus' Vladimir Ignatik goes 163rd. Max Mirnyi and Treat Huey of the Philippines are 25th in the doubles.
