Athletes of 45 states to compete in 2017 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – About 300 athletes from 45 countries will compete in the2017 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Pesaro, Italy, BelTA has learned.

Belarus will field eight athletes: Yekaterina Galkina, Alina Gornosko, Anna Gaidukevich, Mariya Kotyak, Margarita Ovadinskaya, Anastasia Rybakova, Anna Shvaiba and Arina Tsitsilina.

On 30 August the 10,000-seat Adriatic Arena will feature Individual Qualification Hoop/Ball and Individual Final Hoop/Ball events. The Club/Ribbon events will take place on 31 August. The Individual All-Around Finals will feature 24 best athletes on 1 September. The Group All-Around Qualification 5 hoops + 3 balls/2 ropes are scheduled for 2 September.

Pesaro will host the FIG world championships for the first time. Earlier, it played host to nine FIG World Cup events. At the previous World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart Belarus won one silver and two bronze medals. Melitina Staniouta claimed bronze in the Individual All-Around and the Individual Ball event. She, together with Yekaterina Galkina, Arina Sharapa and Anna Bozhko, also won the group silver. Belarus placed third in the medal table.
