MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 39 Aryna Sabalenka failed to advance to the 2018 Rogers Cup quarterfinal, BelTA informs.
In the match against Belgium's world number 14 Elise Mertens the Belarusian won the opening set 6-2, but lost the other two 6-7, 0-6. In the opener Aryna Sabalenka defeated Romania's world number 82 Ana Bogdan 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, and them battled through world number two Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 5-7, 6-2, 7-6.
Earlier, Belarus' world number 95 Victoria Azarenka lost 3-6, 1-6 to British world number 43 Johanna Konta in the round of Last 32.
In the women's doubles event Lidziya Marozava of Belarus and Japan's Shuko Aoyama reached the quarterfinal after seeing off the Czech duet of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 4-6, 7-6, 10-8.
