MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – Belarus world number 34 Aryna Sabalenka has advanced to the quarterfinal of the 2018 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, BelTA informs.
In the round of Last 16 the Belarusian needed two hours and 36 minutes to battle through France's Caroline Garcia, the world number 5, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. In the previous round the French ousted former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 87. Aryna Sabalenka defeated British world number 39 Johanna Konta 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the round of Last 32 and Czech world number 8 Karolina Pliskova 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the opener. The Belarusian will next face U.S. world number 13 Madison Keys.
In the women's doubles event Belarus' Lidziya Marozava and Shuko Aoyama of Japan will play the Hungarian-French duet of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic for the berth in the quarterfinal.
