MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – Aleksandra Sasnovich of Belarus has reached the second round of the French Open 2017, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian, ranked 98 in the world, battled through Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland (World No.65) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the opener that lasted for two hours and 23 minutes. Aleksandra Sasnovich will next face either China's Zhang Shuai (World No.38) or Croatia's Donna Vekic (75).
Earlier, world number one, Germany's Angelique Kerber, went down 2-6, 2-6 to world number 40 Yekaterina Makarova of Russia.
In the men's doubles round one Belarus' Max Mirnyi and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia will take on the French tandem of Quentin Halys and Adrian Mannarino.
The second tournament of the Grand Slam series in Roland Garros will be over on 11 June.
