2017 IIHF World Championship quarterfinal picture set

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – All the quarterfinalists of the 2017 IIHF World Championship in Cologne and Paris are now known, BelTA has learned.

Host Germany qualified as last team on 16 May and will meet Canada in Cologne on Thursday night.

The Group A team standings are as follows: the United States – 18 points, Russia – 17, Sweden – 16, Germany – 11, Latvia – 10, Denmark – 7, Slovakia – 4, Italy – 1.

In Group B, Canada had no trouble in solving Finland, 5-2.

The Group B team standings are: Canada - 19 points, Switzerland - 15, Czech Republic - 13, Finland - 11, France - 10, Norway - 8, Belarus - 7, Slovenia - 1.

Belarus won the team's final game of the 2017 World Championship, 4-3 against Norway, to keep its place in the elite division.

The quarterfinals in Cologne on 18 May will feature the United States vs Finland and Canada vs Germany. In Paris, Russia will take on the Czech Republic, while Switzerland will face Sweden. The semifinals will be held on 20 May, with the medal matches to be played in Cologne on 21 May.
