Zhukovsky plein air works to go on display in Minsk

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The exhibition of works of the international plein air in memory of Stanislav Zhukovsky, famous painter and academician of the Russian Imperial Academy of Arts, will take place at Belarus' Presidential Library on 22 September, BelTA has learned.

The plein air was held by the artists' association Itinerant Art Exhibition Partnership. 21st century (Saint Petersburg) in the Zhuravlinoye estate (Velikoye Selo, Brest Oblast) and Nesvizh Castle (Minsk Oblast). It was aimed at reviving such types of art as lyrical landscape and interior genre which were not so popular among artists lately.

The formal opening of the plein air took place in the Zhuravlinoye estate, the cultural and memorial center associated with the name Stanislav Zhukovsky, in 2015. The place was chosen as the venue of major projects featuring not only painters and art experts but also poets, musicians and vocalists from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan and other countries.

The plein air in memory of Stanislav Zhukovsky was held in Belarus and Russia (Vyborg) in 2017. The goal of the event in Vyborg was to promote lyrical landscape since marine painting was not reflected in the works of either Stanislav Zhukovsky or Isaac Levitan and Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya.

The exhibition at Belarus' Presidential Library will feature works of artists from Vitebsk, Brest, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Pyatigorsk, Vladimir, Taganrog, Oryol, Khabarovsk, Alushta, Sarov, Dimitrovgrad (Russia) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan). The exhibition in Minsk will be held simultaneously with another exposition of the project in Vyborg. The event will also link the participants of the plein air in Tashkent, Vyborg and Minsk via videoconference.

The organizers of the plein air intends to establish the Stanislav Zhukovsky memorial museum in Pruzhany District. The collection of Zhuravlinoye estate has already been enlarged by the works of the project participants including the ones painted in Vyborg.

Exhibition curator is Valery Vyborzhanin, Board President of the artists' association Itinerant Art Exhibition Partnership. 21st century (Saint Petersburg).

The exhibition will be running at Belarus' Presidential Library from 22 September to 22 November.
