Young Belarusians, Russians to mark Unity Day with open dialogue event

VITEBSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Active members of the public movements of Vitebsk Oblast and Smolensk Oblast will discuss the Russian-Belarusian youth cooperation during the open dialogue event in Vitebsk on 31 March, BelTA learned from Viktor Glushin, the First Secretary of the Vitebsk Oblast Committee of the BRSM Youth Union.

The meeting is dedicated to the Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia. "Active members of our organization will meet with students of Smolensk State Institute of Arts and Smolensk State University before an official meeting and a concert in the regional philharmonic. They will discuss the youth cooperation and promising joint projects. We have already achieved some success in the development of regional cooperation. The open dialogue discussion will be attended by representatives of the Vitebsk city and regional authorities, councils of deputies, the public associations of Vitebsk Oblast, Smolensk State University and creative groups of Smolensk. All in all, we are expecting 40 people," Viktor Glushin said.

The youth organizations of two regions will implement a common project "Union Brotherhood", Viktor Glushin said. In autumn 2016 a delegation of Vitebsk Oblast attended the Union Brotherhood, a three-day educational event to develop a plan of action to promote youth cooperation between Russia and Belarus. The first Belarus-Russian open dialogue event "Youth unions: different or similar?" was held last January. Attending the event were representatives of the Vitebsk Oblast Committee of the BRSM Youth Union, Smolensk Regional Organization of the Russian Union of Youth and the autonomous non-profit organization "For the Future". An action plan for the project was approved and agreements were signed between Vitebsk Oblast Committee of the BRSM Youth Union and the partners from Smolensk. At the moment applications are open for the contest of projects of youth tour routes "United Space" and also for the Russian-Belarusian fest of contemporary creative works "Toward the Stars".

"The visit program of the Smolensk guests includes one more meeting. We will organize the second open dialogue on 1 April. It will have a narrower format and will be dedicated to the development of volunteering movements in our regions," Viktor Glushin said.
