Work to make Belarusian border safer to continue

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – The State Border Committee of Belarus will continue working to improve the effectiveness of border guarding and the operation of border checkpoints. The tasks were sketched out by State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zas as he introduced new Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anatoly Lappo to the Committee's top officers on 30 December, BelTA has learned.

The State Secretary mentioned several things the State Border Committee of Belarus and its new head should pay attention to. For instance, it is necessary to improve the effectiveness of border guarding and the operation of border checkpoints. “The accomplishment of the border needs to continue as well as border demarcation and personnel training,” said Stanislav Zas. He underscored that Anatoly Lappo has vast management experience at all levels of the State Border Committee and knows all the nuances of the border service.

According to the State Secretary, top-ranking officers of the State Border Committee will have to deliver a report to the head of state soon. The state of affairs in the Belarusian border service, prospects of its development, and possible changes in border guarding practices in 2017 will be discussed.

On 30 December a ceremony was held in the State Border Committee of Belarus to retire the previous head of the agency — Leonid Maltsev. The State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus thanked Leonid Maltsev on behalf of the head of state for many years of dedicated work for the benefit of the nation. Top-ranking officers of Belarusian power-wielding agencies were present during the ceremony. They also thanked Leonid Maltsev and presented commemorative gifts to him. In turn, Leonid Maltsev thanked the entire staff of the State Border Committee of Belarus and colleagues from other power-wielding agencies for the complete understanding and support he had enjoyed in his line of work.
