Vitebsk to host forum on employment of people with disabilities

VITEBSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Vitebsk will play host to the integration forum Available Work and Employment for People with Disabilities on 17 and 18 May. The event will bring together over 240 participants from five countries, BelTA learned from the public association World Without Borders.

The forum will be held as part of the Fifth Week of Availability initiated by the Office for the Rights of People with Disabilities. “Attending the forum will be businessmen, experts from Belarusian and international organizations, representatives of government agencies, and people with disabilities. We expect to welcome over 240 participants from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Kazakhstan. The plenary meeting and break-out sessions will consider different issues related to the employment of people with disabilities, and also discuss the role of social entrepreneurship in resolving problems associated with the employment of this category of citizens. Vitebsk Oblast will present its best practices in this field,” said Veronika Gerasimova, the director of the center for development of entrepreneurial activity of people with disabilities Uzel of the public association World Without Borders.

The Vitebsk Oblast Sports Palace will be the venue of the forum. Organizations and associations of the region will present their activities, opportunities for business, craftsmanship, and self-employment. Experts will share information about global practices in this area. Successful employment stories will give a stimulus to people with disabilities. The chair of the board of the regional organization BelTIZ will tell the participants about the employment of visually impaired people. The IT and Business Administration Institute will share experience in delivering trainings and employment to people with disabilities. Several job search and professional training platforms will make presentations during the forum.

The international event is organized by the center Uzel in partnership with the committee for labor, employment and social security of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and the human rights organization Office for the Rights of People with Disabilities with the financial support of the United Nations Democracy Fund.
