UNWTO welcomes Belarus' visa-free travel policy

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) welcomes Belarus' decision to introduce visa-free travel for nationals of 80 countries, UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai said as he received credentials from Pavel Latushko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France with concurrent accreditation to Spain, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Taleb Rifai welcomed the efforts of the Belarusian government aimed at visa policy liberalization. He emphasized the importance of the recent decision to introduce visa-free entry for up to five days for citizens of 80 countries. He believes that the decision will improve Belarus' position in the openness to foreigners ranking.

The parties discussed the state and prospects of cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations World Tourism Organization and the possibility of participation of UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai in an international branding conference to be held in Minsk in July 2017 with the assistance of the UNWTO.

Belarus' Permanent Representative to the UNWTO Pavel Latushko thanked Taleb Rifai for the expert advice and technical assistance with reforming Belarus' tourism sector.
