Union State programs develop Belarus', Russia's scientific potential

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Union State programs ensure the development of the scientific potential of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov on 18 January.

The head of Belarus' Academy of Sciences said: “Thanks to cooperation with the Permanent Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, thanks to participation in Union State programs we have advanced far in fundamental research and applied research. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has helped complete 14 Union State programs in various areas such as space exploration, agriculture, materials science, and other ones. Five programs are now in progress and another 12 are in the pipeline. New materials, microelectronics, and stem cells are very important areas of research. Thanks to the implementation of Union State programs for specific economy branches science gets serious support. We keep up our scientific potential while simultaneously designing machines and equipment for various industries. We are happy about this cooperation. It is very productive.”

A conference involving Belarusian state customers of Union State programs and projects in the areas of defense, security, law enforcement, military technology cooperation, and defense industry took place at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 18 January. Participants of the conference were supposed to make preliminary conclusions about the implementation of Union State programs in the abovementioned areas last year and discuss the development of draft concepts for new Union State programs and projects in these areas as well as Belarus-Russia cooperation in R&D and military technology. Taking part in the conference were representatives of Belarusian law enforcement agencies, the ministries of industry, economy, finance, education, the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
