MOSCOW, 25 May (BelTA) – Matters related to the protection of the population and the rehabilitation of the areas affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power disaster will be considered at the meeting of the Belarus-Russia Union State PA Commission on Environment, Nature Management and Mitigation of Accident Outcomes. The meeting will take place at the Polesie State Radiation Ecological Reserve on 29 May, BelTA learned from the Union State PA press service.

“Participants of the meeting will consider the coordination of the draft concept of Belarus-Russia Union State action plan to protect the population and help rehabilitate the areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The agenda of the meeting will include the implementation of the previously-made decisions on environmental protection, nature management and mitigation of consequences of accidents. MPs will be updated on the progress made in the development of documents to set up rehabilitation and recreation centers in the Union State for children from the Belarusian and Russian regions most affected by the Chernobyl disaster, including other accidents and man-made disasters. Attending the event will also be representatives of the Union State Standing Committee, the Emergencies Ministries of Belarus and Russia, the Finance Ministries of the two countries, healthcare ministries, forestry ministries, agriculture ministries, and the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
