Union State media urged to be more proactive in protecting common values

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – Andrei Naumovich, Chairman of the Commission for Information Policy of the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly, called on the media of the Belarus-Russia Union State to be more active in protecting the common values during the meeting that discussed the development of the information space of Belarus and Russia on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Naumovich pointed out that the role of the media is growing year on year. “We all understand perfectly well that there are permanent information wars in the world. The media outlets of Belarus and Russia cannot stay out of this information warfare. They should take a proactive position in protecting our common values,” the MP believes.

The meeting in Minsk gathered Belarusian and Russian MPs, representatives of ministries, and also heads of the Union State media. Among the items on the agenda was the activity of the TV and Radio Broadcasting Organization of the Union State. Nikolai Yefimovich, the chairman of the organization, believes that the media company cannot operate as it used to. “The current social and political agenda poses some tasks that require a complete reboot of our TV channel and our company in general,” he noted.

Nikolai Yefimovich said that the media company will celebrate ten years since its founding on 25 September 2017. This day will be marked with a complete relaunch of the TV and radio service. Nikolai Yefimovich pointed out that today the TV and radio channel does not have the tools necessary for addressing the current tasks. “Our new format does allow for prompt coverage of the events in the common information space. We are considering the possibility of launching a new news service,” he said.

As for the social and political content, Nikolai Yefimovich said that it lags behind the social and political agenda of the Union State. Special attention was drawn to the outdated visual design and the need for improving the quality of the visual content.
