UNHCR Representative praises level of cooperation with Belarus' authorities, organizations

VITEBSK, 12 December (BelTA) – I am satisfied with the level of cooperation with the authorities and public organizations of Belarus, Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Belarus Jean Yves Bouchardy told the media following the meeting with refugees in Vitebsk on 12 December, BelTA has learned.

“I am happy with the level of cooperation with the Belarusians authorities and public organizations that work with refugees. Very few questions voiced during today's meeting prove this. There are no severe problems thanks to the everyday work performed by all the stakeholders,” said Jean Yves Bouchardy.

Attending the meeting organized by the Vitebsk Oblast Organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society were members of more than ten families living in the oblast center in the status of refugees. The majority of them are former residents of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast. They were mostly interested in receiving medical aid and improving housing conditions. “Such meetings are of high importance as people get an opportunity to ask their questions directly. The number of questions has been constantly reducing. For instance, there were no questions regarding employment. This means that the life of these people has stabilized in Belarus,” Jean Yves Bouchardy said.

Jean Yves Bouchardy also emphasized the importance of the amendments introduced in the migration legislation that provided the residents of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast with the right to free medical care.
