UNFPA, Belarus to continue cooperation in promoting gender equality

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) - The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will continue to work on promoting gender equality and combating gender-based violence and population ageing. These matters were high on the agenda of a meeting between Belarus' Ministry of Labor and Social Security Irina Kostevych and Country Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus Caspar Peek.

The parties discussed the priorities for further cooperation within the framework of the UNFPA country program for the Republic of Belarus in 2016-2020, the cooperation on international technical assistance project “Support for the national demographic security program of the Republic of Belarus” and the prospects for joint work in the field of demography. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the national plan of action for gender equality in the Republic of Belarus in 2017-2020.

Mr Caspar Peek called to continue close cooperation in fostering gender-based equality, combating gender-based violence and population ageing.

For several years the Ministry of Labor and Social Security has been one of the key partners of the UNFPA in implementing joint projects and activities within the framework of the UNFPA country programs for the Republic of Belarus (2011-2015 and 2016-2020). The main avenues of cooperation include demography and development, gender equality, the empowerment of women.
