Twenty young writers win Belarusian literary contest Pershatsvet

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Twenty poets and writers became the winners of the contest of young writers Pershatsvet. A BelTA correspondent attended the awarding ceremony on the sidelines of the 24th Minsk International Book Fair.

More than 160 people from all corners of Belarus took part in the contest. The age of participants was from 17 to 30 years. The works of the winners have been published in the Pershatsvet almanac. These are the works of ten poets and ten writers.

Belarus' Deputy Information Minister Alexander Karlyukevich expressed confidence that the contest entitled Pershatsvet has very good prospects. “I hope that many of you will take part in the second contest which will kick off on 1 March. The best works will be published in this almanac, the Litaratura i Mastatstva newspaper, the Maladost and Neman magazines, other literary, art, social and political editions of Belarus,” he said.

According to editor-in-chief of the publishing house Mastatskaya Litaratura Viktor Shnip, there are many young people in Belarus who are looking for the ways to realize their potential in art.

The contest was instituted by the Information Ministry, the publishing house Zvyazda, the publishing house Mastatskaya Litaratura with the assistance of the Union of Writers of Belarus.

Representatives of 31 countries take part in the 24th Minsk International Book Fair which is held on 8-12 February. Among the participants are Belarus, Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, Germany, Israel, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, South Korea, Cuba, Moldova, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, Russia, Syria, Serbia, Slovakia, the United States, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Finland, Czechia, Switzerland, Sweden, Ecuador. Greece is a newcomer.
