Tsentralny District of Minsk, Israel's Netanya sign twinning agreement

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – Tsentralny District of Minsk and Netanya, a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, have signed a twinning agreement, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Israel.

The document was inked by Head of the Tsentralny District Administration Anna Matelskaya and Netanya Mayor Miriam Feirberg-Ikar as part of a two-day visit of a Belarusian delegation to Israel.

The signing ceremony was preceded by talks at Netanya City Hall. The parties exchanged views on a wide range of matters related to the development of the relations between the partners and discussed ways to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Besides, they shared best practices in maintenance and improvement of municipal infrastructure.

The sides noted that the twinning agreement will mark the launch of promising joint projects in culture, education, tourism, sports and social services.

Special attention was paid to the commonality of the historical destinies of the Belarusian and Jewish peoples and the losses they suffered during the Great Patriotic War. The parties pointed out that the centuries-long history of the good neighborly relations between the two peoples who lived together on the Belarusian land is a guarantee of mutual understanding today and in the future.

“Vladimir Skvortsov, the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Israel, welcomed the signing of the agreement jointly initiated by the Belarusian Embassy and Netanya City Hall and actively supported by the Minsk authorities. Besides, the diplomat emphasized positive developments in the Belarusian-Israeli cooperation in different fields,” the Belarusian Embassy said.

The Belarusian delegation laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Netanya and visited a number of municipal infrastructure facilities.

Anna Matelskaya met with Michael Alshansky, the head of the Association of Immigrants from Belarus in Israel. She also held substantial talks with Israeli businessmen interested in cooperation with Belarus.
