Trade unions support socially-oriented policy in Belarus

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – The fact that the Belarusian government pursues a policy with a social focus is very important for trade unions, Chairman of the Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions Mikhail Orda said as he commented on the results of the 5th Belarusian People's Congress to the ONT TV channel on 23 June, BelTA has learned.

“For trade unions, the main thing is that the government should preserve the country's social orientation. This means that social projects and programs will be continued. These programs provide social guarantees to the youth, workers, senior citizens,” Mikhail Orda emphasized.

He noted that in 2016-2020, the development of the Belarusian economy will be driven by innovations. “It has been decided that we need to be ahead of the game instead of catching-up with someone. Those who are ahead certainly win. This is why we should join our efforts and make our industry technology-intensive and competitive,” Mikhail Orda said.

The Chairman of the Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions Mikhail Orda also spoke about the transformation and upgrading of enterprises with the use of innovations. “Together with our partners, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Union of Employers, we have drawn up a detailed document that provides for socially responsible reorganization. If an enterprise closes up, the provisions of the document should be observed. Its former workers should be retrained and reemployed, if necessary. The document protects the rights of workers,” Mikhail Orda said.

The leader of the Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions stressed the importance of dynamic development of enterprises and organizations. “Working people pay taxes that enable the development of the whole country,” Mikhail Orda noted.
