Themed trains in Minsk Metro during 2nd European Games

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Themed trains will enter service in the Minsk Metro in the run-up to the 2nd European Games 2019. The spatial navigation system on the stations will be upgraded, Director of the Minsk Metro Vladimir Sotnikov said at a working session to discuss Minsk development matters, BelTA has learned.

“The spatial navigation system will be upgraded on the stations; the project will be implemented in cooperation with the Belarusian Association of Transport Experts and Surveyors. Themed trains will serve the 1st and 2nd lines during the games. The Minsk Metro employees will attend English language courses with a view to improving customer service. We gained relevant experience during the ice hockey world championship,” Vladimir Sotnikov said.

Apart from that, the surveillance system will be improved. Additional measures will be taken to enhance security and safety of facilities. During the 2nd European Games the trains will run at shorter intervals, while the metro will work longer hours. If the passenger flow increases significantly, the Minsk Metro will deploy a reserve rolling stock.

“We are going to offer free travels to accredited persons. We are working on a single pass for all types of public transport. We will brush up the metro platforms, halls and crosswalks,” Vladimir Sotnikov said.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
