TEART festival in Minsk to go big on first weekend

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The 9th International Theater Forum TEART will show more than half of the plays on the first weekend. The festival opens with the performance “Concentrate. Opening” in Minsk on 20 September, BelTA has learned from the organizers of the festival.

“This year TEART will open with Director Yura Divakov's ‘Concentrate. Opening' surreal opera. The audience will hear a modern myth about the creation of a theater world through actors Marta Golubeva and Darya Novik. The festival opening will take place at the OK16 Cultural Hub. The audience will see more than half of the festival program on the first weekend of the festival,” the organizers noted.

The Belarus Open showcase will start with the Theater of Social Research projects on 21 September. The Close People? play directed by Valentina Moroz will tell the audience about domestic violence and conflicts in close relationships. The theater laboratory Fortinbras will debut with the House #5 play. Directors Nikolai Khalezin and Natalia Kaliada will show the real-life experiences of disabled people, weaving their stories together into a wider narrative to convey to the audience the stifling constraints society still imposes on them. The play will re-run once again on 22 September.

The HUNCHtheatre international theater company will present Alena Shpak and Andrey Dichenko's Left Dissidents production on the stage of OK16. The history of the performance began during the first reading of the play that took place under the direction of Vladimir Shcherban in a private apartment in Minsk on 1 October 2018. Left Dissidents raises the problem of power and responsibility.

The Republican Theatre of Belarusian Drama will present Hunting for Yourself based on the play by Alexander Vampilov. Director Stas Zhirkov assures that “there will be lots of humor, only people will not laugh much, because people don't always laugh when they want to.”

Yura Divakov's Song of Songs is an act in one scene. The play is a modern interpretation of Solomon's ancient love story. The Song of Songs featuring Marta Golubeva and Eldar Bekirov will open the doors to the world of passionate, tender, languishing and fierce feelings.

The Belarusian program of the festival will continue with the Brest Stories Guide audiovisual installation on 22 September. The Kryly Khalopa theater will present its play about how the memory of the Jewish community has disappeared from the city of Brest.

Guards at the Taj, one of the best plays of the previous theatrical season, will be staged at the OK16 Cultural Hub. The winner of the Russian National Theater Award Golden Mask Alexander Yanushkevich used American playwright Rajiv Joseph' play about two friends standing guard over the legendary “Indian Pearl” as a basis for his own play.

Stas Zhirkov's Getamy based on the Belarusian bestseller by Andrus Horvat Radio ‘Prudok' will be presented on the stage of the Cultural Center KORPUS. Getamy is an emotional, live, and dynamic interpretation of the book, emphasizing that Horvat and his heroes are all of us.

The Gomel City Youth Theater will present “A Country Doctor” on the stage of the Republican Theater of Belarusian Drama on 22 September. Director Yura Divakov has created his own world drawing inspiration from the Kafka's, and in this play he asks questions that do not have definite answers.

The 9th International Theater Forum TEART is running in Minsk from 20 September to 8 October under the slogan “Concentrate”. The organizers of the “TEART” are the Visual and Performing Arts Center “Art Corporation”, Belgazprombank and Gazprom Transgaz Belarus with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and of the Minsk City Hall.
