Taabaldiev: Media forums help find general solution to combat fake news

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – Media forums help find a general solution to combat fake news, Director of the Kyrgyz National News Agency Kabar Kubanychbek Taabaldiev told BelTA on the sidelines of the 13th Belarusian International Media Forum Partnership for the Future: Digital Agenda for Media Space.

“Nowadays journalism is eroding and information is spread not through official channels but through blogs and social media. It causes a large flow of fake information we need to combat. Such media forums help find a general solution to reduce the number of such news items, to make sure people can get useful and credible information,” Kubanychbek Taabaldiev says.

According to him, the media forum gives the opportunity to listen to colleagues from different countries and discuss joint projects. “It is not just a platform for communication. It helps take decisions and implement them to make sure that information technologies do good. We are part of the CIS Council of Heads of State News Agencies; we cooperate actively with many CIS state news agencies including BelTA, exchange information with it on a regular basis. All this enhances all-round cooperation between countries. Such contacts will continue developing,” the director of the Kabar agency stressed.

The 13th Belarusian International Media Forum Media Forum Partnership for the Future: Digital Agenda for Media Space kicked off in Minsk on 12 September. The forum is attended by about 300 representatives of nearly 30 CIS and non-CIS countries.
