Social security ahead of reforms in Belarus

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian government intends to prioritize social security of the population as far as the debated reforms are concerned. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the relevant statement as he met with representatives of the International Monetary Fund mission led by Peter Dohlman on 28 September, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.

Andrei Kobyakov said: “As part of the discussions about reforms Belarus intends to prioritize social security of the population and intends to pursue the economic policy in a careful and balanced manner.”

The head of government also pointed out that one of the most sensitive topics — raising the utility rates — is tied to better performance of the entire system of housing and public utilities and the power engineering system.

In turn, Peter Dohlman, IMF Mission Chief for Belarus, revealed preliminary results of the mission's work in the country.
