Slavic Meetings in Gomel to gather linguists from six countries

GOMEL, 27 November (BelTA) – The fifth international scientific and cultural-educational forum Slavic Meetings will be held in Francysk Skaryna Gomel State University on 28-29 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.

Attending the event will be linguists, scholars, professors and schoolteachers, students, undergraduates and graduate students from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, and Romania. They will discuss the problems of modern Slavic studies, sociolinguistics, linguistics and soco-cultural life, and many other topics.

One of the key events will be the international conference “Language as a mirror of the era”. Speakers will make reports on the regularities in the development of East-Slavic languages, communication of language units with the stereotyped concepts of the past century, etc. During the roundtable the participants will discuss internet communication as a contemporary vocal phenomenon.

The results of the studies will be published as a collection of scientific articles.

“The forum is held in the year of the centennial of the February and October revolutions that had a huge impact on the socio-political life of many countries. Guests will visit the Russian Science and Culture Center and will see an exhibition dedicated to this topic,” the press service said.

Slavic Meetings aim to popularize Slavic languages and cultures, expand all-round relations between peoples, strengthen the unity, understanding and friendship between them.

The organizers of the forum are Francysk Skaryna Gomel State University and the Russian Science and Culture Center in Gomel.
