DUNHUANG, 20 September (BelTA) – The second edition of the Silk Road International Cultural Expo, which opened in China's Dunhuang on 20 September, has welcomed nearly 500 guests from 51 countries, including Belarus, BelTA has learned.

According to the organizers of the event, the expo is divided into six key areas of activity: Forum (with the focus on pragmatic cooperation), Exhibition, Performance, Innovations, Trade and Tourism.

During the official opening ceremony, the host country stressed that in the modern world the cultural cooperation is one of the key components in the development of full and successful mutual relations between countries and nations.

The Dunhuang expo is designed to create a unique atmosphere and spirit of the Silk Road, encourage the communication between representatives of different cultural traditions and worldviews.

The projects of the new Silk Road are a bridge of friendship and cooperation between countries and nations. They can become an important driving force behind sustainable human development and peace strengthening, said Chinese Culture Minister Luo Shugang.

“Despite the fact that different states have their own history and development paths, the spirit of the ancient Silk Road demonstrates that we can learn from each other, share knowledge, achievements and discoveries through dialogue and communication. All of this is important for the common progress and economic prosperity,” Luo Shugang said.

The culture minister of China also noted that the key to successful and full-fledged relations between nations is mutual understanding, the integration of ideas and respect for cultural diversity.

The ongoing forum will unite the efforts of different states and regions of the world to preserve cultural diversity, support tolerance, equality and inclusiveness on the global scale. The essential part of the expo will be talks and steps to encourage humanitarian contacts, projects and exchanges.

Dunhuang, located in Gansu Province, was once the Silk Road gate to China.
