Science academies of Belarus, Austria sign cooperation agreement

VIENNA, 12 November (BelTA) – During the ongoing official visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Austria, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences have signed a cooperation agreement, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov told reporters that research institutions of the two countries have been collaborating for many years already. The parties have implemented a series of projects across various fields, including in materials science, physics and biology. “The agreement is a logical continuation of our long-standing partnership. We have formalized our research outcomes in this document. It will enable us to scale up our cooperation in many areas of research,” he informed.

Vladimir Gusakov expressed hope that the partners will be able to implement joint commercial projects which outcomes will be in demand. “We are set to expand our collaboration in power engineering, mechanical engineering, pharmaceutics, agricultural sciences. We have common interests here,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

Belarus has already drafted a number of projects and submitted them for scrutiny to the Austrian counterparts.

Vladimir Gusakov noted that President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences Anton Zeilinger is among foreign members of the NASB. “This is why our partnership is in many ways an example to follow. We have absolute understanding,” he emphasized.
