Russia's Podolsk to step up economic cooperation with Belarusian twin towns

PODOLSK, 27 November (BelTA) – The Russian city of Podolsk will boost economic cooperation with its Belarusian twin cities and towns, Nikolai Pestov, the head of Podolsk Urban District of Moscow Oblast, said on 27 November during the eighth meeting of Belarusian and Russian twin towns n Podolsk, BelTA has learned.

Podolsk was chosen to host the meeting not by chance. The decision was made keeping in mind the experience that the city's experience in international relations. Podolsk became member of the international association Twinned Towns in 1996 and has twinning agreements with 15 cities and regions of the CIS member states and non-CIS countries. Belarus' Borisov is among them. The relevant agreement was signed in 1992.

“We have much in common, but the anniversary of the Great Victory is a special thing. Our fraternal relations are measured by courage, faithfulness, and shared belief in a just cause,” Nikolai Pestov added. This year's meeting started with a wreath laying ceremony. After that, the participants were divided in four groups to discuss matters of patriotic education of young people.

Nikolai Pestov also pointed out that Podolsk Municipal District of Moscow Oblast has been developing cooperation with Soligorsk District of Belarus' Minsk Oblast for more than ten years.

He expressed confidence that Podolsk will continue bolstering its twinning ties with Belarusian regions. He noted that apart from cooperation in humanitarian affairs, the city seeks to develop economic cooperation.

Podolsk is one of the major scientific and industrial centers of Russia's Moscow Oblast. It has 93 large and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises and over 400 small companies. The city's exports to Belarus include cableware, rubber and plastic products, insulations, furniture, electrical goods, and pharmaceuticals.
