Russian Science and Culture Center invites Brest residents to attend Yuri Gagarin's class

BREST, 12 April (BelTA) – Thematic meetings timed to the 56th anniversary of the first manned flight into outer space will take place in the Russian Science and Culture Center in Brest, the center's Director Yelena Maslova told BelTA.

On Cosmonautics Day the Russian agency in charge of international humanitarian cooperation Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian space agency Roscosmos intend to organize a lesson named after Yuri Gagarin. Participants of the event will be able to hear holiday greetings from the Belarusian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, who is now on board of the International Space Station (ISS). They will be able to see documentaries about modern cosmonauts, who speak about Yuri Gagarin, and about the people, who made manned flights into the outer space possible. The photo exhibition Road Into Cosmos will be arranged.

The exhibition is part of the photo, video, and lecturing campaign Road Into Cosmos, which is scheduled to take place in the Russian Science and Culture Center in Brest through 21 April. Students of the Brest State Technical University are expected to participate in the campaign on 12 April. Two veterans of the Missile Forces Command, who used to work in the Russian space launch center Baikonur, are expected to show up as guests of honor.

The Russian Science and Culture Center has also arranged the drawing contest Surprising World of Cosmos in dedication to Cosmonautics Day. It was arranged with assistance of the Ideology, Culture, and Youth Affairs Department of the Brest City Executive Committee. The drawing contest will last through 21 April and is expected to involve Brest school and university students aged 13-25. The drawing contest will be divided into five nominations: cosmonautics today and tomorrow, my favorite movie about cosmos, extraterrestrial civilizations, star flights at night, and modern cosmos posters.

Results will be summed up and winners will be awarded on 28 April. “We expect interesting guests to turn up for the ceremony since we've sent letters with invitations to the cosmonaut training center in Zvyozdny Gorodok, Russia. We hope to receive a positive response,” said the director of the Russian Science and Culture Center.

A ceremony to award winners of international academic excellence competitions took place in the Russian Science and Culture Center a short while ago. The competitions had been arranged by the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev. About 30 school students from Brest and the oblast took part in the academic excellence competitions. Five of them won holiday packages in the international children center Artek. Three won the grants that will allow them to study in the Samara National Research University.
