Russia in favor of setting up maintenance centers for military equipment in Belarus

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Russia believes that the project to set up maintenance centers for military and special-purpose equipment in Belarus is promising, Director of Russia's Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev told the media on 20 May, BelTA has learned.

“The work on military and technical cooperation with Belarusian colleagues is based on certain principles. The focus is on supplies. Nevertheless, the issues of maintenance, upgrade and supply of spare parts are on the agenda. Moreover, we have a concrete program. There are pilot projects for setting up maintenance centers for air defense equipment, electronic equipment, and armored vehicles,” Dmitry Shugayev said.

In his view, both Belarus and Russia will benefit from such centers. Since the equipment is used by the armed forces, it must undergo maintenance and repair on site. “Therefore, I am confident that these projects have a future. We will make every effort to ensure that they will be implemented,” he noted.
